El Dorado County Busted Mugshots
A mugshot in El Dorado County gets taken at the jail during booking. Staff fingerprints the person and assigns a booking number. They also record who has custody and the reported charges. Two jails handle this work. The EDSO Custody Division runs the Placerville Jail and the South Lake Tahoe Jail. Once a person is accepted, the sheriff owns the booking file no matter which agency made the arrest. City police, CHP, and sheriff's deputies all book into the same county system.
The public sees only a trimmed version of that file. The county's Citizen RIMS roster keeps inmate photos switched off. It also hides birth dates, age, sex, race, address, and physical descriptions. So a booking photo can sit in the official record while nothing shows online. That gap is deliberate. EDSO Records is the place to go for an actual photograph.
The roster shows what the jail logged at intake, nothing more.
El Dorado Booking Record Fields
One booking identifier ties everything together in the official current-custody entry. Pull together the agency, the arrest, the charges, and bail under that single number. Open the right entry first. Then compare dates and agencies before drawing any conclusion about a person in custody.
| Field | What it shows |
|---|---|
| Booking ID and name | The county booking identifier and recorded full name |
| Booking date and time | When jail intake was recorded |
| Booking and arresting agencies | The jail custodian and original arrest source |
| Arrest date and location | The reported starting event, which can precede intake |
| Custody status and total bail | A current snapshot, subject to later court action |
| Charge detail | Code, description, level, count, agency, location, and charge-level bail |
| Booking photograph | Taken at intake, tied to the booking number, but hidden from the public roster |
Behind the scenes, the internal custody file can hold much more. Think identifying details, property, medical intake, phone calls, cell assignment, discipline, visits, and court activity. Most of that stays confidential or operational. A field missing from Citizen RIMS does not mean EDSO never created it.
When Busted Records Appear
A police arrest can hit the news before the person ever shows up on the El Dorado County jail roster. EDSO finishes booking first. Intake covers identity checks, the booking number, photographs, fingerprints, charge data, custody authority, property, and a health review. So a gap between the arrest event and a public custody entry is normal, not suspicious.
The county promises no fixed delay in minutes or hours. Missing someone very recent? Check the spelling, give intake time, look at the next daily bulletin, and search again. The portal is not real time. Updates do land throughout the day, but EDSO warns that entries may be incomplete, delayed, or awaiting a court filing.
Absence can mean several things. Booking may still be in progress. The person could have been released, held somewhere else, or never accepted into the jail. A different spelling is also common. Match the explanation to another official record before settling on one story.
Note: A city arrest report and a county jail booking are separate events with different custodians and different publication times.
Request El Dorado Busted Mugshots
When the roster hides the photo, ask EDSO Records directly. A good request names the full person and gives an approximate booking date. Add the booking number or arresting agency if known. Spell out exactly what you want: the booking record and the booking photograph tied to that booking. Ask for an electronic copy where possible. Release is never promised, since juvenile material, victim information, sealed files, investigative records, and medical data can all be withheld.
- Find the booking number and date in Current Inmates or a dated bulletin when possible.
- Complete the official EDSO Public Records Request form with a narrow description.
- Submit the form in person, by fax, or by mail to the appropriate Records Unit.
- Ask for the applicable exemption if EDSO withholds all or part of the requested item.
- Use the court file separately for charges filed and the final disposition.

EDSO charges $0.25 per page for report copies, payable by cash or check, and aims to respond within ten working days. That clock covers the response, not delivery of every record. No separate photo fee exists. No photo-specific turnaround is published, and nothing guarantees that every image gets released. Plan around that uncertainty.
California Busted Mugshot Law
California Civil Code section 1798.91.1 bars a publisher or distributor from asking or accepting payment from the pictured arrestee to remove, correct, modify, or refrain from publishing a booking photograph. The covered person may pursue statutory or actual damages and other relief. The law does not order every accurate page to disappear for free, but it does mean a person should not pay a service to change or suppress their own covered photo.
Penal Code section 13665 limits certain law-enforcement social-media posts of booking photographs after nonviolent arrests and generally provides a 14-day removal framework unless an exception continues. Agency websites and agency-run electronic data systems are excluded from the statute's definition of social media. It does not create an automatic right to erase a roster entry. El Dorado County already disables photos in its public roster.
For an eligible arrest with no conviction, California Courts explains sealing under Penal Code sections 851.91 and 851.92. Factual innocence under section 851.8 is a different and more demanding route. A conviction dismissal under section 1203.4, often called expungement, is also not universal erasure. Case-specific legal advice should come from court self-help or qualified counsel.
Start corrections at the source. Give EDSO the exact booking number and error. If a court issued a sealing or dismissal order, give the order and source URL to each custodian. RecentlyBooked states that its qualifying correction and removal process is free, including for wrong-person, juvenile, duplicate, dismissed, sealed, or outdated items. Mugshots.com also describes free record maintenance and disposition updates for listed grounds. Neither unofficial service should be treated as the court record, and no paid-removal company is recommended.
After a source page is deleted or materially changed, Google's Refresh Outdated Content tool may update a stale search result. It does not delete the source and should come after the record custodian acts.
After El Dorado Records Leave View
A name vanishing from Current Inmates means one thing only: the person is no longer in custody there. The booking file and photo can still sit in sheriff storage. EDSO sells a subject-only local criminal history report covering ten years of county jail bookings, with dates, arresting agencies, and charges. That decade is just the report's window, not a destruction deadline.
County Records Management Policy A-9 governs how departments handle files. It covers paper and digital, honors legal holds, and requires schedule reviews. Yet no sheriff schedule available to the public names a fixed retention term for booking photographs. For an old El Dorado County booking, file a year-specific EDSO request. Ask where the record stands: still on hand, moved to the county Records Center, or disposed of under schedule.
Three states are easy to confuse. Online visibility, agency retention, and archival transfer are separate things. Nothing official showed that El Dorado jail mugshots routinely pass to the Recorder-Clerk, the California State Archives, or a historical society. The Recorder-Clerk's Official Records Index holds recorded documents, not jail bookings.

Custody status decides where to look. Someone booked moments ago lands in the county system once intake finishes. Selected arrests and police calls surface in the daily bulletin. A released person may have dropped off the roster entirely, which means a records request. Sentenced state prisoners move to CDCR's locator. Federal and immigration custody run through separate systems entirely.
- Search EDSO Current Inmates for a completed booking still in county custody.
- Check the dated EDSO Media Bulletin or the relevant city police tool for selected activity.
- For a released or older county booking, request the specified record and photograph from EDSO Records.
- Use CDCR CIRIS only for a person currently incarcerated in California state prison.
- Use the Superior Court index for charges filed, hearings, and disposition.
- Use BOP or ICE only for their separate federal custody scopes.
Compare more than a name. Booking number, date, agency, arrest location, and court case help prevent a false match. An unofficial page may preserve an old accusation long after release. It is not stronger evidence of present custody just because its photograph remains online.
Where El Dorado Mugshots Appear
Start with official channels. The county roster answers who is in custody right now, though it shows no photo. For the actual photograph, EDSO Records is the official request path. Everything else answers different questions and deserves a clear label.
| Channel | Photo? | Official? | Scope |
|---|---|---|---|
| EDSO Current Inmates | No | Yes | Completed bookings currently in county jail |
| EDSO Media Bulletins | No | Yes | Selected police activity for one date |
| EDSO Records request | May be releasable | Yes | Specified county booking file or photo |
| CDCR CIRIS and media request | Separate request path | Yes | Current state-prison custody |
| South Tahoe Now | Varies | No | Event-driven local reporting |
| RecentlyBooked | Often | No | Rolling unofficial county view |
| Mugshots.com | Often | No | Older, apparently stale county archive |
No verified El Dorado County page exists on Busted Newspaper, Arrests.org, or Mugshots.zone. Anyone offering a link is guessing. Third-party entries can sit stale, incomplete, or misidentified, and many miss the court outcome. Treat them as leads at best.
El Dorado Busted Jail Roster
The official Current Inmates portal covers Placerville Jail and South Lake Tahoe Jail in one place. Four search controls narrow the field. Click a match to expand the detailed charges. Nothing appears until a booking is complete.
| Search field | Type | Required? | Use |
|---|---|---|---|
| First name | Text | No | Narrow a last-name match |
| Last name | Text | No | Best broad starting field |
| Start date | Date | No | Limit the booking-date range |
| End date | Date | No | Close the booking-date range |
Search by last name first. Add a first name if needed. Dates help sort out repeated and common names. Once you expand a result, compare the booking ID, agency, arrest location, status, total bail, and charge detail before trusting the match. Bail is only a snapshot of custody, and a judge can change it. No photograph appears anywhere on the roster.
The roster search interface is a plain lookup tool, not a photo gallery.
The captured interface shows the search controls and custody context without republishing any booking photograph.
Note: The portal refreshes during the day, but EDSO promises no fixed interval or permanent public retention window.
Busted Today in El Dorado
El Dorado County has no live official module for new bookings. The closest thing to a daily feed is the Media Bulletins page, and it is not a full arrest log. One date loads at a time. It lists selected initial calls and arrests, with time, nature, incident number, location, and disposition.
There is no 48-hour, 72-hour, weekly, or multi-day view. Dates must be picked one at a time. The selector stretches back a long way, but that range is no retention promise. The newest item tends to lag about one day behind, which reads as rough next-day posting rather than a fixed rule.
The official bulletin interface shows its date selector and plain text-first layout.
The view helps distinguish selected daily police activity from a complete jail booking feed.
The two tools overlap unevenly. A bulletin can name someone already released, while the roster can omit an arrest whose booking is still incomplete. Check both before concluding anything.
El Dorado Booking Alerts
No official EDSO app exists for inmate search or mugshots. Citizen RIMS runs fine in a mobile browser, though its county inmate email alerts are switched off. CorrectPay and VendEngine handle inmate communication, not roster or photo lookup. Calling any of these a mugshot app points people to the wrong service.
VINE is the right channel for custody changes. EDSO describes it as free and anonymous, checking custody status and sending phone or email notice when something shifts. Registration takes a four-digit PIN. Automated calls keep coming until that PIN is entered. EDSO's own warning: never make VINE your only safety plan.
The EDSO/OES emergency alert system is a different animal. It covers hazards, evacuations, and urgent operations, never bookings or releases. Keep emergency warnings, VINE custody notices, and inmate communication tools in separate mental bins.
El Dorado Booking Record States
The same name can surface in several systems because each one tracks a different stage. Treating them all as a single mugshot search is the most common mistake people make here.
| Status | Best source | What it proves |
|---|---|---|
| Reported city activity | City Citizen RIMS or EDSO bulletin | A selected police event, not necessarily completed booking |
| Currently in county jail | EDSO Current Inmates | Completed booking represented in present custody |
| Released or older booking | EDSO Records and court | Retained booking file and later case path |
| Filed court case | El Dorado Superior Court | Filed charges, hearings, and disposition |
| Current state prison | CDCR CIRIS | Post-sentence state custody |
| Federal custody | BOP or ICE locator | Separate federal status, not a county booking |
Release deletes the roster entry but not the file behind it. The agency keeps its booking record. A bulletin entry may stay selectable. An aggregator page can hold the photo even longer. Persistence online never makes an unofficial page the best source for who is in custody right now.
After El Dorado County Bookings
A booking card only captures a moment. Prosecutors then decide what to file. From there, the El Dorado Superior Court case index becomes the dependable trail for outcomes. Registration is required, and you can pull criminal matters by case number or citation. Fresh filings lag a bit, so give new cases time to show up.
Some vocabulary helps. Arraignment is the first court appearance, where charges and release conditions get addressed. Bond means the money or conditions tied to getting out. The disposition is the recorded result, whether a dismissal, a plea, an acquittal, or a sentence. When online files are missing or old, the clerk handles record-search requests, and cases before 2000 may sit in manual index books.
A city arrest can involve four custodians. The police department holds the initial report, and EDSO holds the jail booking. Once charges are filed, the District Attorney becomes the report-release agency. The court holds the disposition. Pick the right office for the record type and you avoid delays.
California Prison Photo Records
CDCR CIRIS covers people held in California state prison right now. The text results are detailed. You get name, age, CDCR number, and current location. Admission date, commitment county, parole-eligible timing, and any parole-board action also appear. This is not a recent El Dorado County arrest search. It does not replace the local jail roster.
Photos work through a different channel. CDCR runs a separate identification-photo request process for media and non-media requesters alike. A full name plus a date of birth or CDCR number helps pinpoint the right person. The agency can withhold a photo if releasing it might endanger someone or compromise an investigation. One caution: a commitment county is not always the arrest location. The official CIRIS interface lays out the state-prison locator's search context.
This state system belongs after the county custody and court paths, not before them.
El Dorado Federal Custody Checks
Federal custody runs on separate systems. The Bureau of Prisons locator covers federal prisoners from 1982 to the present. That includes people no longer in BOP custody. Search with a federal register number. A name plus optional details also works. Results are text-only, with no inmate photograph. When the locator comes up short, BOP FOIA is the formal fallback.
ICE keeps its own detainee locator. It works from an A-number and country of birth. An exact name with country of birth also works. The tool shows no mugshots and does not search minors. No official evidence indicates either El Dorado jail operates under an ICE detention contract, and a county booking says nothing about immigration status.
The U.S. Marshals Service Eastern District of California may post a limited federal fugitive set. That is not a county warrant search or a recent-booking feed. Keep these systems separate even when the names look alike.
Busted Mugshots by El Dorado City
Only two incorporated cities exist in El Dorado County. South Lake Tahoe is the larger one. Its police department publishes a daily calls map. The supported east-slope booking path runs through South Lake Tahoe Jail. EDSO's combined roster shows current custody after intake wraps up. For the full picture of the city report, jail, and news handoff, see South Lake Tahoe Busted Mugshots.
Placerville serves as the county seat. Its police department introduced Citizen RIMS, which carries agency arrests and daily bulletins. Placerville Jail is the supported west-slope booking path. Placerville Busted Mugshots follows the PPD, EDSO, District Attorney, and court custodians through the process.
The county's large unincorporated communities are not cities. They get no invented municipal pages. Sheriff-policed arrests from those areas still flow through EDSO's countywide booking and records system.
